The Heydar Aliyev Center is named after Azerbaijan’s third president. It was designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The spacious, naturally lit interior includes an exhibition on Azerbaijani history, a gallery, an exhibition of traditional dolls and vintage cars, and a cafe.

From certain angles, the building seems to come alive, with its white exterior walls rising to the top and slowly flowing down the other side. Another architectural marvel stands on the west shore. The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, a cylindrical structure designed to resemble a rolled up carpet, is one of Baku’s most playful buildings. Every time I pass this building, a smile spreads across my face.
