1. Palacio de Cibeles Viewpoint

Located in the great tower of the palace and accessible to the public since its restoration, from the Mirador the visitor can discover a privileged panoramic view of the city, a 360º image of the urban landscape of Madrid. A system of maps facilitates the interpretation of the city and allows the visitor to recognize and locate the location of the different buildings, making the visit more pleasant and interesting.
For your safety, you can only enter the observatory during the time indicated on your ticket, as you can only enter in 30-minute increments.Due to the short time limit, it is recommended that you take the elevator to the observatory a little earlier than the time you are allowed to enter. The observatory is located on the 8th floor, and the elevator you can take from the first floor of City Hall will take you to the 6th floor. From there, you can either walk or take the elevator to the eighth floor, although the elevator to the eighth floor is a little narrower, so it’s easier to walk.
Once you get to the top, you’ll have a great view of the Plaza de Cibeles and Gran Vía, Madrid’s old town. There’s also a sign explaining which buildings you can see from the observation deck.
Get off at Banco de España station on Metro Line 2 and head towards the town hall.

2. Parque del Retiro: a large forest and a man-made lake that’s not quite as big as a forest, but it’s still fun to paddle in
Parque del Retiro is Madrid’s largest park, and it’s huge. With an area of 1.4 square kilometers and a circumference of 4 kilometers, it has a man-made lake in the center, three galleries, and an exhibition hall.
Retiro Park is located in the heart of Madrid and is known for its lush forests, colorful floral displays, and sculptures. It features statues of Spain’s kings and an emerald-colored man-made lake running through the center.
Until 1868, Retiro Park was only accessible to the aristocracy, but when the King of Spain donated the park to the city of Madrid, the public was allowed to enter. Since then, Retiro Park has become a favorite place for Madrid’s residents to relax, as well as a hub for busking and artistic activities.
You can take a boat ride along the lake and enjoy a quiet afternoon, but don’t expect much as the lake isn’t very large.

3. Madrid’s San Miguel Market
Madrid’s San Miguel market was built in 1916 and was transformed into a modern building in the early 2000s. Along with the Royal Palace and the Prado Museum, it’s one of the main tourist attractions in Madrid, and its proximity to the Plaza Mayor makes it a great place to grab a bite to eat after a day of exploring the city.
Pinchos means toothpicks or sticks in Spanish, and they’re often eaten as a snack, with seafood and fish skewered with bread. It’s delicious with wine or beer, and Madrid’s San Miguel Market is home to a number of pinchos restaurants.
The first thing you’ll notice when you visit San Miguel Market is its neat appearance and well-organized facilities, which have been maintained by a private investor since the iron building was remodeled in 2003. All the walls are made of glass, so you can see everything inside, and the windows have been kept clean. The central lounge, where you can eat comfortably despite being a traditional market, is also clean. The food stalls are located around the edges of the market and sell everything from pinchos and tapas to jamón, baked goods, desserts, ice cream, fruit juices, and more.
It is a 3 to 4 minute walk from the Opera station on the Madrid Metro Line 2,5,R. Opening hours are from 10am to 12pm, and they are also open on Sundays.

4. El Rastro flea market: eclectic knick-knacks, exotic atmosphere, and lots of pickpockets to watch out for
Madrid’s El Rastro flea market is a 500-year-old Spanish tradition that takes place once a week on Sundays. You can find everything from souvenirs, trinkets, and artisanal handicrafts to antiques, as well as second-hand clothes, bags, vinyl records, leather bags, wallets, shoes, and more.
El Rastro flea market is open on Sundays from 9am to 3pm and is located in Plaza Cascoro, 500 meters south of Plaza Mayor.

It’s a bit of a walk after getting off at Metro Line 1. Portazgo station, and it’s a good idea to bring water or a light snack to replenish your energy. The most beautiful sunset is between 4pm and 6pm.
