King Henry II ordered the construction of the fortress on the border of the Duchy of Savoy in Antibes, and it was one of the first fortifications built during the Renaissance.

A beautiful piece of architecture based on mathematical principles, the fortress is shaped like a star, like four arrowheads joined together, and its walls are 43 meters high. The fortress is said to be shaped like an arrowhead from above, but from below it looks more like the bow of a giant warship. It was redeveloped in the 17th century by the Marquis de Vauban.
