Due to its long history, it is considered one of the “four ancient cities of Morocco” along with Marrakech, Fes, and Meknes. It’s a one-hour train ride from Casablanca, and many people make it a day trip.

The residence of the current king, Mohammed VI, is located in the center of Rabat city. The palace is characterized by the offices of the king and the prime minister side by side. At night, the pathways leading to the palace are closed. It’s not uncommon to see guards on horseback around the palace, which makes for a great photo opportunity.

A tower on a hill in north-central Rabat. It’s a square, unfinished structure whose construction was halted in the 12th century after the death of its architect, Yaqoob al-Mansur. Like the royal palace, the Hassan Tower also features guards on horseback. Compared to guards in other countries, they are quite human. They smile at travelers and make small talk among themselves. The tomb of Mohammed V, the current king’s grandfather, is also nearby. The interior is beautifully decorated and worth a visit.

The only neighborhood in Rabat where time has stood still. If you walk west from Rabatville Station for about 15 minutes, you’ll find the earthen walls that surround the medina. With your back to Rabatville Station, it leads directly to the medina’s main entrance and square, with the souks on your right. Small alleys spiderweb between the main street and the bazaar. If you haven’t bought any souvenirs yet, this is a great alternative. There are many shops selling accessories, rugs, zileba, argan oil, and more. For a glimpse into the life of the medina’s inhabitants, take a walk through the alleys.

The locals call this place “Kasbah” for short. In the past, it served as a citadel and granary. The citadel itself is exotic, but to really enjoy it, you need to explore every corner of the village within the citadel. Kasbah Udaya is lined with blue-painted houses, many of which were built hundreds of years ago, making it an exotic subject. The Atlantic Ocean, especially from the top of the citadel, offers some of the best views of Rabat. As you walk around the citadel, you’ll often find local youth offering to be your guide. For a small tip, they’ll take you to the rooftops of buildings with great views.

You can find works by world-renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, as well as works by unique artists such as Alberto Giacometti. You can usually find paintings, sculptures, and photographs by Moroccan contemporary artists.
